(Image: Google Maps)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">After deploying the National Guard in Washington, DC, Trump plans to send the state-based military to Chicago and Baltimore in the coming days. The latter, the 30th largest US city with about 567K residents, is home to Horseshoe Casino.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Horseshoe Casino Baltimore has failed to live up to its preopening projections. The downtown Baltimore casino opened in August 2014 and is owned and operated by Caesars Entertainment in conjunction with CBAC Gaming, LLC, a group of Maryland investors.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Horseshoe is located just south of M&amp;T Bank Stadium, home of the NFL&#8217;s Baltimore Ravens. The casino&#8217;s developers thought the property would become a major component of Ravens games, but the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/horseshoe-casino-baltimore-pedestrian-traffic-from-ravens-stadium\/\">short walk<\/a> &#8212; roughly a quarter mile &#8212; has remained blighted with abandoned buildings and a sketchy environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The National Guard is a state-based military force that becomes part of the US military&#8217;s reserve when activated for federal missions.<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Could National Guard Help Horseshoe?<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Trump says Baltimore will soon receive federal assistance in keeping its streets safe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;I have an obligation. This isn&#8217;t a political thing,&#8221; Trump said, calling both Baltimore and Chicago &#8220;hellholes.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The short walk from the Ravens field to the Caesars casinos is uninviting to most, as homeless people and panhandlers litter Russel Street. Caesars and CBAC Gaming have sought to make the short trek more welcoming by buying up abandoned buildings and proposing a massive makeover of Warner Street.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Horseshoe Casino Baltimore didn&#8217;t respond to <i>Casino.org&#8217;s <\/i>request for comment about whether the property is supportive of Trump bringing the National Guard to Charm City.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Baltimore is experiencing historic reductions in violent crime, including homicides, but ongoing challenges remain. Mayor Brandon Scott says the National Guard isn&#8217;t the solution.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"main-blockquote\">\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Baltimore has achieved historic progress, driving down shootings and homicides to historic lows,&#8221; said Scott. He referenced city data that suggests homicides are down 29.5% and nonfatal shootings are down 21% from 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Pigtown, however, the Baltimore neighborhood near Horseshoe, has a reputation for significant crime, including shootings, homicides, and theft.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) is also opposed to the National Guard in Baltimore.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;It would just be great if we could have a president of the United States to actually understand that this is one of the great American turnaround stories that&#8217;s happening right now, and we would love the help to be able to continue to do that work instead of this &#8212; arrogant criticism and cynicism that he continues to introduce into the conversation,&#8221; Moore said.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Horseshoe Needs a Ringer<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Horseshoe Casino Baltimore has been consistent in losing market share against its two primary competitors &#8212; MGM National Harbor and Live! Casino &amp; Hotel Maryland. The Baltimore casino has seen its annual gross gaming revenue tumble from $324.3 million in 2016 to just $172.5 million last year &#8212; a 47% decline.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In 2024, MGM National Harbor won $838.7 million from players, while Live!
